Whipped Milk Couture

The nation’s favourite coffee shop, Costa Coffee, has collaborated with Katy Perry’s costume designer for a dress collection inspired by whipped milk!

As the heatwave continues, Costa Coffee is combining high-fashion with Instagram-worthy summer iced drinks to showcase ‘Whipped Milk Couture’.

Taking inspiration from Costa Coffee’s new velvety, soft whipped milk; along with the structural designs of Alexander McQueen and renowned haute-couturier Iris Van Herpen; the three stunning dresses took costume designer to the stars Kate Tabor over three weeks, 20 metres of wetsuit material and 12 litres of foam to create.

Silky Smooth Style

The Whipped Milk Couture creations were commissioned to celebrate the launch of Costa Coffee’s new Whipped Milk, which gives iced coffee drinks like the Iced Flat White and Cold Brew a silky mouth-feel while topping them with an elegant meringue-like appearance.

Designer Kate who has created awe-inspiring costumes for music videos for the likes of Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue, began the process by sketching designs, then experimenting with delicate foams ahead of crafting robust neoprene shells, which supported the overall structure of the dresses. The painstaking application process took three hours per gown.

Kate Tabor said: “Each dress is bespoke; from a flirty minidress to an edgy asymmetric design and a classic, full-length bridal number; all were inspired by the texture of Whipped Milk and the way it is poured. I’ve created innovative costumes for everyone from David Bowie to The Chemical Brothers, but I’ve never designed anything as challenging or unique as Costa Coffee’s Whipped Milk Couture.”

The Whipped Milk creations mark the reinvention of Costa Coffee’s Iced Flat White and Iced Cappuccino drinks this summer. The addition of Whipped Milk, an aerated skimmed milk foam topping, also forms the finishing flourish on summer menu items such as refreshing Cold Brew and in Costa Coffee’s new range of Milk Whips.

Gennaro Pelliccia, Costa Coffee’s Master of Coffee, added: “Whipped Milk is Costa Coffee’s must-have summer drink addition, inviting coffee-lovers to enjoy their favourite hot choices as well as refreshing chilled drinks, perfect for the scorching weather we’ve been enjoying.

Coffee fans don’t even have to wait for Whipped Milk to make it from the catwalk to the high street, it’s already whipping up a storm in store now!”

Iced Drinks & Cold Brews

The Iced Flat White is expertly handcrafted by Costa Coffee’s skilled baristas using the purest extract of the coffee bean.

In the same way the traditional ‘hot Flat White’ that fans know and love is finished with texturised milk; so too is the iced version using the chilled Whipped Milk to recreate the luxurious silky texture.

Cappuccino drinkers can enjoy the Iced Cappuccino made with either a double or triple extraction of espresso and topped with the delicate chilled milk foam.

For a twist on your favourite Costa Cold Brew, try the Cold Brew with Whipped Milk.

The meringue-like Whipped Milk floats beautifully on top of the Cold Brew and is a great way to add milk to the drink without diluting the coffee flavour and adding visual and sensorial excitement to the coffee drinking experience.

Milk Whips

Recognising the differing demands of their customers, Costa Coffee wants everyone to benefit from their exciting new milk innovation, whether they are a coffee lover or not.

For this reason, Milk Whips are a delicious and lighter non-coffee drink perfect for anyone wanting a great tasting, refreshing and low calorie “indulgent” drink.

The Milk Whips are made from mixing skimmed milk into a light, almost mousse-like texture. These milky and fluffy low-fat treats will be served as Vanilla Milk Whip and Strawberry Milk Whip.

Think of them as a refreshingly modern take on a classic milkshake.
