Making Mornings Brighter

18th May 2016

Mornings don’t have to revolve around blaring alarms, too many cups of coffee and a mad dash to the car. This week’s blog from Antonia Harler at The Body Shop has top tips on making mornings brighter.

We live busy lives and most days getting into bed and cosying up marks the end of a successful day. But waking up in the mornings is a whole different story! Crawling out of bed early in the morning is no easy task. But there are ways to making your mornings brighter…

Stretch It Out

If you are anything like us, your daily morning wake-up call consists of something like this: Open eyes to alarm (hit snooze several times), roll out of bed, grab phone, make a cup of coffee and hit the shower.

However, when we were little, the first thing we would do upon waking was to stretch. And by stretch we mean entering some weird contortion usually followed by a big ‘aaaaaaah’! It felt SO good.

Allow yourself one minute to do the same in adulthood – indulge in the pleasure of a long, drawn out stretch. It elongates the muscles, makes you feel better and prepares you for the day ahead.

Wash Up

No, we don’t mean the dishes, we’re referring to the face and body. Hop in the shower. The zingy scents from The Body Shop’s Satsuma Range will wake you up and make you feel decidedly happier.

Also pay attention to your face in the morning. One of our top tips is to have a super simple skincare routine in place. Cleanse, tone and moisturise. Adapt it to your needs/time available and you and your skin will thank you.

Turn on the Tunes and Fuel Your Body

Moods tend to lift with upbeat music. Have a morning playlist at the ready and enjoy listening to it while eating the most important meal of the day, breakfast. But make sure it’s a filling and nutritious breakfast – something like porridge, fruit or scrambled egg on wholemeal toast.

Bring on the Glow

Many of us won’t have time for make-up in the mornings, but there are a few steps you can do that won’t take too much time; BB Cream, highlighter and mascara.

Applying BB cream or foundation evens out the complexion. Highlighter ensures the light hits where you want it to and mascara makes you look more awake – it opens up the eyes and makes you look like you had a good night’s sleep (even if you haven’t!)

Dress to Feel Comfortable

There’s few things worse than putting on an outfit in which you feel uncomfortable. A top tip for a great morning/day is to wear clothes that make you feel confident and in which you feel comfortable.

Get your clothes ready the night before too – it’s just one less thing to worry about the next day.

By the time you’re dressed and ready to go, you’ll feel like you’ve already achieved a lot. You’ve listened to great music, ate a healthy breakfast, your eyes look awake and – most importantly – you’ve had a good stretch!
