Garden House Hospice Care: Good Rating from Care Quality Commission

6th July 2016

Garden House Hospice Care has been awarded an overall ‘Good’ rating following an unannounced Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in March!

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and adult social care services, which inspects and regulates care establishment to make sure they meet fundamental health and safety and quality standards.

Over one day a team of inspectors observed the clinical services provided by Garden House Hospice Care and spent time with staff volunteers, patients and families across the hospice.

“I am so proud of the staff at Garden House Hospice Care. This rating is a credit to the hard work, commitment and passion the team have all contributed over the last 12 months to achieve specialist palliative care and advice for patients and their loved ones.”

Jayne Dingemans, Registered Manager and Director of Patient Services

The Care Quality Commission found patients and relatives consistently spoke about the caring and compassionate attitude and positive approach which the staff demonstrated throughout the hospice. Patients and relatives told Care Quality Commission:

  • The staff understood their individual care needs and were compassionate and understanding and that their cheerful and friendly approach created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
  • They were completely satisfied with their care and thought highly about staff, volunteers and management.
  • People’s wishes for their final days were respected.
  • Hawthorne Day Care facility enabled them to meet with people in similar circumstances and was a welcome part of the community support.

Sue Plummer, Chief Executive, adds: “Garden House Hospice Care has provided 25 years of care to the community through our valued, skilled and experienced clinical team. It is our aim to provide ‘outstanding care’ to those facing a life limiting illness by further developing and improving the range of services and facilities we offer. We also couldn’t do this without the support from the community, as £2m of income needs to be raised through charitable sources. Such support means we can continue to provide care”.

Garden Square is proud to support Garden House Hospice Care and recently raised £547.67 for the charity during our Queen’s 90th Birthday event.
