Essentials for Travelling

27th July 2016

You see them all the time; pictures posted on Facebook and Instagram of people travelling to exotic locations and new places that you would quite like to see yourself.

Travelling and seeing the world is enough to get anyone excited but it can also be a little daunting especially if you are backpacking for the first time. But fear not, as Trespass’s travelling essentials guide in this week’s blog is a great way to start your preparations…

BACKPACK

An item you’ll obviously need when backpacking is a backpack! There are so many different styles and features available on the market that choosing one can be a little confusing and stressful.

This is probably the most important piece of kit you’ll bring with you as it will be with you throughout the entirety of your journey so making sure you get what you need is a must.

Firstly, if you are going away for an extended period, you will be better off with a larger style of rucksack. Simply, it will give you much more room to play around like Trespass’s Trek 85 litre rucksack that also has different compartment so you can organise your kit.

Alternatively, for shorter journeys a Daysack might be enough to carry your trip essentials.

Also, look out for back support systems and hip and waist belts. Remember, whatever you pack, you have to carry and these features will help to disperse the weight of the bag to relieve pressure on your back.

Keep an eye out for padded straps too as they will help to minimise strain on your shoulders. At the end of the day, it’s all about comfort and support, meaning your chosen rucksack needs to help not hinder you.

INSECT REPELLENT CLOTHING

If you are planning an excursion in a more tropical setting, then it is more than it is more likely you’ll come across you fair share of insects. Of course you should mosquito repellent spray with you but you should also remember your clothing should help you fight off insect bites.

At Trespass, there’s a wide range of clothing and accessories with a Moskitophobia finish to help ward away insects to help prevent irritated skin as well as illness.

Obviously, you should have all the relevant jabs before setting off, but this kind of clothing will act as an extra line of defence so you can venture in comfort.

SLEEPING BAG

Another essential you should bring with you when travelling is a sleeping bag. Whether you are planning on staying in a hostel or are camping, having your own sleeping bag means you’ll be able to have a comfortable night’s rest.

Even if you are staying in hotels, sometimes plans can change so by making sure you have a sleeping bag, you won’t be caught out if they do.

Plus, they are light to carry and some rucksacks even have the option to secure your sleeping bag onto the outer so it won’t take up any room in your rucksack.

When making your selection, consider where it is you are going. Sleeping bags are designed in terms of seasonal use so make sure your sleeping bag is designed for the season you are going in or if your trip will last all 4 seasons, there are styles available that can be used throughout the year.

TRAVEL BUM BAG

Making sure your money and other valuables stay safe when travelling is essential which is why you should take a travel bum bag.

Able to be securely strapped around your waist, these styles of bags are great for travelling as you’ll be able to keep you small, daily essentials within easy reach.

Not only that, they feature separate compartments, for easy organisation, that can be securely zipped closed meaning your items are perfectly safe.

FLEECE

Whether you are venturing to a warm location or are going somewhere a little cooler, always remember to take a fleece.

Regardless of where you are, temperatures will get colder at some point and by packing a fleece, you’ll not have to worry about conditions changing.

With loads of styles available, which vary in terms of design, weight and performance, you are sure to find one you like and that meets your needs as you travel.

There are other things to consider too – such as first aid kits and wet wipes to adapters and a compass. Making sure you are well prepared for the adventure ahead is vital!

By properly getting yourself ready, you’ll be able to focus on having fun, gaining new experiences and meeting new people, which is what it’s all about.
