Earth Hour

22nd March 2017

On Saturday 25th March 2017 at 8.30pm Garden Square will join in the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour.

Millions across the globe will switch off their lights for one hour to show they care about the future of our planet and to help prevent climate change.

About Earth Hour

Earth Hour, organised by WWF, is a worldwide grassroots movement uniting people to protect the planet. This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour since it was first started in Sydney in 2007.

Last year was the biggest event yet, with hundreds of millions of people taking part across a record 178 countries and 7,000 towns and cities, alongside world famous landmarks including Big Ben, the Sydney Opera House and Times Square in New York.

Earth Hour continues to have a real and lasting impact beyond the hour, and this year it’s hoped to draw global attention to climate change.

The Power to Make Change Happen

The Earth’s atmosphere is warming fast. In some cases, weather patterns, climates and natural environments are changing quicker than wildlife or people can adapt.

Global temperatures have been rising for over a century, speeding up in the recent years, and are now at their highest. 2016 was the hottest year on record, beating the previous two records of 2015 and 2014.

By joining the Earth Hour global celebration, Garden Square will take part in a symbolic moment designed to help put a spotlight on the issues facing the planet and to remind us that, together, we have the power to make change happen.

“We are proud to take part in WWF’s Earth Hour and are excited to be involved with such a great and inspiring event. Everyone can make a difference to help protect our planet and we all have a key role to play.”

Jack Philbin, Garden Square’s Centre Manager

For Earth Hour 2017, Garden Square will be switching off all non-essential lights at 8.30pm on Saturday 25th March for one hour.

“We’re thrilled that Garden Square will be taking part in WWF’s Earth Hour this year and hope that they’ll inspire many others to get involved. WWF’s Earth Hour is an opportunity for all of us to come together and send out a global message that the time for strong climate action is now.”
