Angelic Antics
28th November 2018
From gorgeous gift ideas to got-to-have gadgets and divine décor to show-stopping styles, Garden Square Shopping Centre in Letchworth is your one-stop-shop this Christmas.
And with enchanting events, plenty of in-store promotions and cracking Christmas giveaways, it really is the place to be for some extra sparkle this season.
The Floating Angels
To complement the Letchworth Christmas Lights Switch On event on Saturday 24th November, Garden Square welcomed the floating angels to the town. Dave and Delilah – the playful angelic duo – interacted with shoppers while on their mission to spread peace, love, joy and laughter. With their golden curls, neon halos and silly trumpets, they delighted onlookers with their quirky style of humour.
The heavenly act entertained crowds at various intervals throughout the afternoon, but also found time to pop into several stores to browse cut-price winter warmers and Christmas gifts!
At 5pm, the angels led the Letchworth Town Christmas Parade. The procession, that also included Santa Claus and Cinderella, passed hundreds of cheering visitors as it reached its final destination in Leys Avenue, prior to the light switch on countdown and firework display.
People took to social media after the event to comment:
“Had a wonderful time at the event. It was one of our highlights of the year!”Samantha Hough
“Was a fab turnout and a lovely day. Well done all!”

Jingle Bells Show
To keep up the festive momentum, Garden Square is welcoming the North Pole Postal Service to its malls on Saturday 8th November. Starring Pickle the elf, Jingle Bells the reindeer and Santa’s helper Aurora, this entertaining act will provide plenty of Christmas cheer for young and old. Children can pet the reindeer… while helping to keep Pickle away from the Brandy! This show allows little ones to interact with fun characters, dance to music and celebrate the wonders of a Lapland Christmas.
The Jingle Bells Show will be at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on the day.
The Nutcracker Trail
On the lead up to Christmas, two friendly 5 foot tall Nutcracker Soldiers are also visiting Garden Square. Until Friday 21st December, these festive figures will be moving from shop to shop, so be on your guard.
Garden Square is inviting shoppers to hunt them out in order to win a prize. Simply note down which store you see them in each week and then submit your entry form to Specsavers in Garden Square before Friday 21st December. A winner will be selected at random from the correct answers and will bag a family set of cinema tickets. There are also two runners up prizes to be won. Entry forms are available from all Garden Square’s stores.
Santa’s Grotto
Santa Claus makes a welcome return to Garden Square this year to see who has been naughty and nice. The jolly old fellow with the big belly and bushy beard will be in his grotto every Saturday until Christmas, where children can meet him and receive a gift. The grotto will be open from 10am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm each Saturday.
Entry is £3 per child or £5 for 2 children, with all monies going to local causes; the Prospects Trust and 1st Baldock (Templars) Cub Scouts.
Jack Philbin, Garden Square’s Centre Manager, says: “We were delighted to welcome the floating angels to Garden Square and see them lead the annual Christmas Parade. We saw thousands of shoppers come through our malls on the day, happily bucking the national downturn in shopping venue visitor numbers. We look forward to hosting more events and shows at the shopping centre on the lead up to Christmas, including our Jingle Bells Show, The Nutcracker Trail and the ever-popular Santa’s Grotto. It’s set to be a magical time at Garden Square over the next few weeks.”
