The 5 Best Halloween Movies
19th October 2016
Halloween and Bonfire Night fall just days apart, and there’s so much going on in Letchworth to celebrate!
This time of year is great fun for the kids – dressing up, trick or treating, watching fireworks, and eating plenty of sweets – but they will get worn out with it all. When they do, it’s time to settle them down with a Halloween movie. There are plenty to choose from: just drop by CEX in Garden Square Shopping Centre to pick them up at a great price! Here are our five favourites.
Hocus Pocus
In this 1993 Disney classic, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy star as three sisters who are accidentally resurrected three centuries after being executed for witchcraft.
Flying around on vacuum cleaners, the witches turn their attention on trick-or-treaters in the hope of gaining immortality – and it’s up to a plucky group of kids to stop them! This fun fantasy movie makes for a Halloween night of fun and magic for all the family.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Are the kids excited about Christmas already? The Nightmare Before Christmas makes for perfect common ground. Combining Tim Burton’s vision, Danny Elfman’s beautiful composition, and Henry Sellick’s timeless stop motion animation makes for true movie magic.
The film follows Jack Skellington, a resident of Halloween Town who stumbles through a portal to Christmas Town and decides to celebrate the holiday – with hilarious and disastrous results. Kids will love the charming songs and adults will appreciate the film’s darker tones.
Casper
Casper the Friendly Ghost has got to be one of the most lovable animated characters ever created. The sweet ghost wants nothing more than to make friends – but his appearance makes that a little difficult.
These good-natured movies will be instant favourites, and the wacky mishaps of Casper’s uncles Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso will have everyone laughing.
Ghostbusters
If you want a film that you’ll love just as much as your kids, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! With an all-star cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, this paranormal comedy about an unusual band of ghost removers in New York City is silly, fun, and feel-good.
It’s classic eighties movie that’ll give you some serious nostalgia, and monsters aren’t too scary for little ones. You’ll have the iconic theme song in your head for weeks.
Monsters, Inc
If your little monsters are a range of ages, it can be hard to find a movie they’ll all enjoy but you can’t go far wrong with Pixar. Monsters, Inc. was one of the studio’s early big hits. Released in 2001, computer animation was still a new beast, but the film has aged well.
It’s full of heart, warmth, and jokes for grownups. This time of year might be a good time for cuddly Sully and funny Mike to show kids that monsters are nothing to be afraid of.
