Garden Square Hits All The Right Notes!

17th August 2017

Throughout the summer, Garden Square Shopping Centre in Letchworth has been hosting a series of free and fun shows and activities for children and their families.

Each provides a great way for little ones to take part in supervised events, express their creativity and make new friends.

On Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th August, the shopping centre hosted two music-themed events; Make-a-Shaker Craft Workshop and Bang On Show.

MAKE-A-SHAKER

Members of Garden Square’s Kids’ Club were given the opportunity to make their own musical shaker with the help of crafting events company, Crafty Crew.

Using various decorative materials and lots of imagination, children created their own colourful shaker that they could then use to shake along to their favourite tunes.

Crafty Crew Director, Karina Shearing, said: “Children derive many important benefits from the opportunity of working with arts and crafts projects. Workshops like this allow them to explore their imagination, express themselves boldly and develop their own individual style. It’s also been proven that many literacy and mathematical concepts can become easier to comprehend following on from artistic activities. We had a great time at Garden Square helping children create some musical masterpieces during the Make-a-Shaker Workshop!”

BANG ON SHOW

After the popular crafting activity, children and shoppers were invited back to Garden Square the next day with their shakers to join in a music show performed by a talented percussion duo and accompanied by a load of rubbish!

Using recycled bins, bin lids, plastic bottles, buckets and other every day objects, crowds were entertained by the tuneful and energetic Bang On Show.

The audience were also invited to join in by playing an old trouser hanger that creaked and an old dog toy that squeaked… all to the rhythm of the Bang On drums!

There was plenty of positive noise from shoppers on the day and afterwards on Garden Square’s social media pages. J Wilson said: “Came into the town this morning and heard the show! Amazing!” N Wren commented: “It was great! The kids really enjoyed it.”

“We are delighted to be hosting a series of exciting events and shows for Letchworth residents over the summer period. We’ve had a great response to all the activities so far (both on the day and online) and look forward to hosting more events throughout the year as part of our Kids’ Club.”
