A Feast of Fun at Garden Square

11th October 2017

On 30th September and 1st October, Letchworth welcomed the Beer & World Food Festival! A wide range of stallholders in the town brought cuisine from around the globe including Thai, Jamaican and South African.

Alongside these, there were traditional German Oktoberfest stalls and a giant beer tent, that featured a local beer from the Garden City Brewery.

There was live entertainment, a chill out area in The Wynd, a new taste trail that took visitors on a tour of Letchworth’s best eateries and two exciting shows at Garden Square!

German Um Pah Band

On Saturday 30th September, we welcomed a German Um Pah Band who performed live at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. The Bavarian Strollers have been an established German Um Pah band since 1978.

Consisting of 2 clarinets, trumpet, trombone and tuba, they performed a selection of German music and sing-along tunes to the Square’s shoppers, much to the delight of young and old.

L’Hotel Show

The “smallest hotel in the world” checked in to Garden Square on Sunday 1st October. This charming, eccentric, tiny venue erupted into a glittering cabaret, danced into dream-filled slumber and awoke to clattering kitchen choreography.

L’Hotel included acrobatics, globe walking, French finesse, trumpeting and mime mayhem. It was a truly enchanting show that drew crowds throughout the day.

Successful Results

There was an overall increase in footfall over the weekend and promotion of both events organically reached over 28,000 on social media.

“It was great to see so many international delicacies and exciting entertainment in Letchworth during the Beer & World Food Festival. Our German band and L’Hotel show proved a great hit with shoppers and we look forward to welcoming similar acts over the forthcoming months.”
