A Fun-packed Summer

4th September 2019

It’s not easy to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays, but with the help of Garden Square and the shopping centre’s Kids’ Club, Letchworth families were able to access plenty of free activities and shows while school was out.

Garden Square’s Kids’ Club

Dedicated to children aged between 3 and 15 years, Garden Square’s Kids’ Club allows children to nurture their artistic talents and meet new friends. With supervised creative events held at the shopping centre every Wednesday during the summer, members could design and decorate various craft items to take home and keep.

These Workshop Wednesdays included:

Bug House Workshop: Wednesday 31st July

Using a variety of decor pens and accessories, children could design and decorate a wooden bug house for their garden – the perfect haven for wildlife throughout the summer and beyond.

Ceramic Gnome Workshop: 7th August

Little ones could design and decorate their own bespoke ceramic gnome. Using a range of acrylic paints, porcelain paint pens and googly eyes, children created beautiful garden characters to take home.

Unicorns & Dragons Workshop: 14th August

In this magical workshop, pretty princesses and pint-size princes made their own unicorn and dragon wings using colourful pens and themed accessories.

Biff Bat Workshop: 21st August

During this crafting session, children decorated wooden biff bats using deco pens, stencils and plenty of imagination!

Trainer Money Box Workshop: 28th August

In a bid to encourage saving, this craft activity gave mini fashionistas the opportunity to design and decorate a stylish trainer money box.

Each event saw hundreds of children attend, demonstrating the popularity of these crafting activities. The shopping centre’s social media pages received plenty of positive feedback:

Samantha Nelson: “This is the first year we’ve taken part in all the craft activities, we have loved coming down and joining in – such a lot to do. Brilliant!”

Kelly L Clark: “My children and my friends’ children loved coming down and doing the craft stuff. Thank you so much.”

“Thank you. My two have loved the sessions they have attended.”

Mega Mondays

As well as crafting activities, Garden Square also hosted show-stopping Mega Mondays each week. These shows included:

Balloonatics: 29th July

This brilliant balloon-art street show transformed Garden Square into a carnival, party atmosphere. Decorating people with incredible hats, giant costumes and hilarious toys (all made from balloons), the Balloonatics kept the crowds entertained with lots of comic interaction.

Dino Day: 12th August

Families stepped back in time and relived the sights and sounds from the Jurassic Era in our Dino Day. From tiny hatching babies to the mighty T-Rex and Triceratops, this show was roar-some!

Bruce Airhead: 19th August

Bruce Airhead, with a volunteer, used a voice-activated vacuum cleaner to inflate a six-foot balloon. Then to the crowd’s disbelief, wearing only brightly coloured lycra shorts and choreographed to music, Bruce squeezed inside the balloon. Once inside, Bruce danced to a fast-changing sequence of music – much to the hilarity of onlookers!

Adora Bubble: 26th August

Adora Bubble shared her magic amongst a flurry of bubbles and smiles! Instantly creating an aura of wonder and delight, this fantastic fairy used a variety of props to produce a multitude of bubbles that filled Garden Square.

“This was fantastic. The humour was brilliant, and the dinosaurs were fab. Well done guys! I think I enjoyed it more than the kids!”

Fitness Fridays

Each week throughout the summer, Garden Square’s Kids’ Club also hosted a series of Fitness Fridays in association with Anytime Fitness.

Taking place three times a day, children could enjoy some fun physical activities. From smile-inducing sports to entertaining exercises, it was the opportunity to enjoy plenty of frivolity whilst getting fit!
