Sparks Fly at Garden Square!

30th November 2017

From gorgeous gift ideas to got-to-have gadgets and divine décor to show-stopping styles, Garden Square Shopping Centre in Letchworth is your one-stop-shop this Christmas!

And with enchanting events, plenty of in-store promotions and cracking Christmas giveaways, it really is the place to be for some extra sparkle this season.

To complement the Letchworth Christmas Lights Switch-On event on Saturday 25th November, Garden Square welcomed Spark! to the town.

Spark! are a mesmerising street theatre show that combine high impact drumming with kaleidoscopic lighting design. The five ethereal, playful characters that make up the act, use captivating and dramatic music to interact with crowds and lead spectators on a spellbinding journey.

The act began their eye-popping display of music and light in the centre of Garden Square just before 4pm, where they wowed crowds with choreographed routines amid plumes of dry ice smoke. They also posed for photos alongside shoppers, retailers and children before walking to The Spirella Building in Bridge Road to lead the Santa Parade.

As residents lined the streets of the town, Spark! illuminated the high street on their route to the main stage outside The Platform pub. Following the official Christmas lights switch on by Santa Claus and friends, Spark! performed for the final time much to the delight of the huge crowd that had formed.

People took to social media immediately after the event concluded to enthuse about Spark! and the evening’s activities:

Susan Syms said: “That’s the way to do it! It was stunning. Well done to everyone who put this together.”

Nadine Collins said: “My son and I watched Spark! and they were amazing. My son is autistic, and he loved all that went on. It was wonderful. It’s nice that you do all these things. Thank you.”

Mandy Money said: “Spark! were absolutely phenomenal! The switch on was the best Letchworth have ever put on. A lot of effort, thought and hard work had gone into it. Well done Letchworth organisers. My family were so entertained. I’m feeling proud!”

“We were delighted to welcome Spark! to Garden Square and Letchworth. The shopping centre came to a standstill as people watched in awe of this head-turning display of music and light. Our footfall was double that of a typical Saturday. We look forward to hosting more events and shows at the shopping centre on the lead up to Christmas, including the White Snow Lion who will be visiting us on Saturday 9th December.”
