A Feast of Fun

30th May 2018

Throughout the summer, Garden Square Shopping Centre in Letchworth is hosting a series of free and fun shows and activities for children and their families.

Each provides a great way for little ones to take part in supervised events, express their creativity and make new friends.

On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May, the shopping centre hosted two foodie-themed events; Spoon Pals Craft Workshop and The Liver Cottage Show.

Spoon Pals Craft Workshop

Members of Garden Square’s Kids’ Club were given the opportunity to make their own spoon pal with the help of crafting events company, Crafty Crew. Using various decorative materials and lots of imagination, children created their own quirky characters.

Crafty Crew Director, Karina Shearing, said: “Children derive many important benefits from the opportunity of working with arts and crafts projects. Workshops like this allow them to explore their imagination, express themselves boldly and develop their own individual style. It’s also been proven that many literacy and mathematical concepts can become easier to comprehend following on from artistic activities. We had a great time at Garden Square helping children create some musical masterpieces during the Spoon Pals Workshop!”

The Liver Cottage Show

After the popular crafting activity, children and shoppers were invited back to Garden Square the next day for The Liver Cottage Show. Comedy chefs Hugh Fearn and Lee Whittingstall presented a cookery demonstration like no other. As the mobile kitchen garden moved through the crowds of Garden Square, they created ‘fusion food on the move’, blending home grown ingredients with food foraged from the corner shop, the streets and the audience.

Their signature dish of ‘Pan Fried Pizza Crusts with Medallions of Air Dried Chewing Gum’ was hailed by the critics as ‘ground-breaking, audacious and chewy’.

Blurring the boundaries between ‘traditional’ and ‘contemporary’, ‘urban’ and ‘rural’, ‘fresh’ and ‘best before June 1972’!

The duo certainly provided a feast of family fun for the whole family.
